Malacca hospital appeal for blood donors

MALACCA: The Transfusion Medicine Department of the Malacca hospital is urging members of the public to donate blood, to ensure sufficient daily supply, especially with Ramadan approaching next month.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the department said on average 80 to 90 blood bags are needed every day, and due to the Covid-19 outbreak, many of its blood donation campaigns had to be cancelled.

“Although we are dealing with a pandemic currently, there are patients in the hospital who need blood transfusion every day for their survival.

“Therefore, we called out healthy and non-risky individuals, to come to the Malacca hospital blood bank to donate blood, since in this situation, transfusions can only be done there,” according to the statement.

The Transfusion Medicine Department is now also open during lunch break on Mondays to Thursdays (1-2pm), and Fridays (12.15-2.45pm), effective yesterday.

Operation time has also been extended which are Mondays to Fridays (8am to 9pm) and Saturdays and Sundays (11am to 4pm).

For further information, members of the public can refer to the department’s official Facebook page ‘melakabloodbank’ or call 06-2892873/2871. – Bernama
